Macrame Jewelry - Much Cooler Than It Sounds

These macrame necklaces are really sweet looking. You know, macrame? That thing with yarn that they used to do to hanging plant holders in the 70s? Yeah, well they look a lot better as necklaces.

They're around $100 each, which is kind of a lot for string with knots in it, but then again people who can make macrame into a viable art form should probably be rewarded monetarily for that. You can get them at Ambiguous Horse.

My s-mom (that's what you call stepmom when you consider her another mom to you) taught me to macrame in the 70s when she was making some lovely hippie plant hanger holder thingies. I applied my skills with embroidery thread at sleepaway camp in the mid-eighties, becoming a rock star of friendship bracelets, and later of hair wraps in the early 90s. Very useful skill. Help me think of a way to use it in the new millennium!

My mom has one macrame necklace from my grandma. When my grandma died she gave it to my mom it's kind antique but still beautiful. I've always want to wear it but my mom only lets me during occasion. I understand that it's important to her and she promised me to give it to me when I get married. Well, 5 years to go.
