The awesome Julia Rothman, of groovy wallpaper and pattern-making fame, has done a super-neat tutorial on how to make a repeatable pattern by hand. Check out the Design*Sponge post for the secret. I'll admit, it totally blew my mind. There is literally no way I would have EVER figured out how to do that on my own.



I'm planning to try this soon. Here's my game plan:

Step 1: learn how to draw.
Step 2: make really good drawing.
Step 3: follow these instructions and make a repeatable pattern out of aforementioned really good drawing.

Should be a snap, right?
