Shocker: Shoes Designed For Safety Are Ugly
A UK insurance company has developed a shoe that goes from a really ugly stilleto to a really ugly flat shoe. The idea is that women wear heels to look good which is unsafe for driving, so NOW they can wear these, flip the heel underneath, drive to where they're going, then flip it back out. Unfortunately the style of the heels is, um, not so stylish. It's more, whorish. 80s glam rock whorish. Is it mean to say that?

I actually love the concept but I wish they would put a little more thought into making something more neutral. I just don't see these going with every outfit. I fear that while these may make your driving safer, they also may cause people to perceive you are a down-on-her-luck hooker and embroil you in some sort of unwanted conflagration- a side effect that's not mentioned on the website. Instead, their website touts such ground-breaking market research as:
In fact, just under half (47%) of women drivers said they chose what shoes to wear when getting ready in the morning based on what went best with their outfit rather than being the safest for driving in.
Put conversely, their claim is that 53% of women drivers are choosing which shoes to wear based on how safe they are for driving. That seems a little... bit like a lie. But if you are in that 53% then by all means, buy these and be both "stylish" and safe. Although if you have multiple outfits in your closet that coordinate with these bad boys then my hunch is that you might have bigger issues.
